The highest mountain of Portugal is a strato-volcano with a height of 2,351 meters. At the same time it’s the highest mountain of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge and the highest volcano in Europe. At the top there is a volcanic crater with a diameter of more than 500 meters and a depths of 30 meter. Inside, there is the Piquinho (Pico Pequeno), a small volcanic cone which is 70 meters high and marks the actual peak. Climbing this mountain is an unforgettable experience which you should not miss when visiting Pico.
